Torrevieja’s twenty-fifth carnival celebrations came to an end on Saturday night. They may have ended but they certainly won’t be forgotten for a long time as the 2011 edition was considered by many as one of the most colourful for many years.
Along with the hundreds that participated, thousands of spectators lined the streets, many of them entering the spirit themselves, in costumes and makeup while cheering on the processions.
The evening procession may be without a few of the children from last Sunday’s but there were still babes in arms and push chairs plus many under fives strutting their stuff during the two hours that the Carnival lasted for.
Unfortunately, the Rascals were performing on the same night in the Virgen del Carmen and did not participate in the night parade but now that they have entered once, it’s hoped that they will participate in future editions and possibly entice other international groups to do so.
The more adult orientated night show is slightly more titillating and risky but all in good taste and most importantly, everyone is just there for fun. Anyone that was asked to, stopped and posed for photos, mainly on mobile phones, which instantly winged their way around the world. It was a great end to the twenty-fifth edition of Carnival in Torrevieja, so here’s to another quarter century of fun, colour and entertainment on the streets of Torrevieja.
